The physical act of painting has been a way for me to connect with my inner landscape. The resulting work is a confluence of that inner landscape and the natural world of ocean marshes and rain forests of the Pacific Northwest. Conceptually, I am influenced by Sumi brushwork and the Mystic Painters of the Northwest. This body of work has been inspired by the trees that grow in and around the marshes I have walked and experienced. Trees reign as a metaphor for the human experience --- pristine, damaged, cloaked, alone and together. My painting process is a combination of careful planning and intuitive spontaneity working in oil glazes and velaturas on canvas to create subtle textural landscapes. As trees and landscape emerge from these multilayered surfaces may you be immersed in the visual poetry of our observable world.
